until Tokyo Olympics

Apr 14, 2019

The invitation to the orientation has arrived.

Over two weeks have passed since I gave up working at the Tokyo 2020, I received the invitation to the orientation.

Hmm...

I have lost my enthusiasm about it though...

Tentatively, I'm going to attend it. It's at the end of this month.

  1. That's great news (perhaps).

I read your previous two posts and I am sorry I didn't comment on them till now. I understand your feelings and doubts about the competence of the organisers of the RWC and Tokyo 2020.

It must have been disappointing for you to make the decision not to participate as a volunteer in the Rugby World Cup.

Now you still have an opportunity for Tokyo 2020, which was the main event you have been looking forward to. In any such very large scale event there are many groups of people planning and managing different aspects of the undertaking. It is possible that you have suffered a bad experience from one area of the organisation, but other parts could be conducted in a much better way.

Think positively about the orientation and don't give up yet! If you proceed, when the Games actually start you might find that the disorganisation up to now can be forgotten. Then you, with your fellow volunteers, will make Tokyo 2020 a great success, and you will be glad that you continued with your dream.

Am I too optimistic? Well, it is up to you to make the decision that you think is right. But I hope to be reading your first volunteer report in 15 months 1 week and 2 days from now!

  2. Tim,

    Thank you very much!

As you said, what I've seen is only a small part of it. It's not enough to make any decision. And, probably I will end up feeling what great experience I have as long as I wouldn't give up.

Thank you very much for your great words and encouragement!!
(I keep your words in mind and try recall when I almost give up something, become negative or feel disappointed at something.)

I'm going to enjoy the orientation and will write here about how it goes.
