The info of the Orientation for the Olympic Volunteer

I found the information of the volunteer orientation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Although it's quite important info, I don't receive any mail or don't see any announcement on the MY Page. It was just listed in the news column on the website.

Isn't the place to post wrong?
Shouldn't this kind info be sent by email in the first place?

Actually, I have often had the feeling that...
at least regarding volunteer-related activities, the RWC2019 Organising Committee is much more organaized and doing more properly than the TOCOG.
What the TOCOG has been doing is vague and unclear, and sometimes sloppy.
I know the event scale is different though.

I wonder if the TOCOG is not sloppy and just the RWC2019 Organising Committee is doing too great?
I'm not sure because it's my first time working for an international sports event.

The information I've found includes the steps to the orientation with the orientation reservation manual (PDF file), the schedule, the venue, etc.
Is it OK that those information is posted just in the news column??
I think that many of the applicants haven't found it.

The orientation in Tokyo will be held from early in February to the end of May.

I also found some information in the Volunteer FAQ.
The TOCOG doesn't invite all the applicants. They say that they will invite necessary number of people plus expected number of refusers.
The TOCOG never mentions "lottery." They uses the word "matching." But I don't think they can check matching for all 200,000 applicants. I think that's why they keep the criteria unclear.

And what is more, they don't say anything about whether to inform the people who are not invited to the orientation, more than half of the applicants won't be invited though.

The RWC2019 Organising Committee clarified the lottery, informed both successful and unsuccessful applicants of the results, and often (too often, haha) sends us emails to give information.

Organizing committees have to be very organized. Otherwise... it takes a toll on athletes and stuff especially volunteers.

The following is a part of the article I wrote here regarding the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

Volunteers boycotted.
Due to crude working conditions, about 2,400 volunteers quit by 3rd February.
The remaining volunteers have requested the country’s Olympic committee to provide decent or basic working conditions.
And, in the end, over 100 volunteers boycotted the rehearsal for the opening ceremony.

The Mascots Official Debut

It's been 5 months since the mascots for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics were decided.
My article at the time;
https://mytokyoolympics.blogspot.com/2018/03/tokyo-2020-olympic-mascots-were-unveiled.html

Today, their names were revealed.

(frm: https://tokyo2020.org)

Left: Olympic Mascot MIRAITOWA
MIRAI means "future" and TOWA means "eternity."

Right: Paralympic Mascot SOMEITY
It's a combination of an English word "so mighty" and "someiyoshino" which is representative cherry blossoms of Japan.

Then, the official licensed products of the mascots arrived in stores today.

Venue plans for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be revised.

On 10th June,
Tokyo Governor, Yoichi Masuzoe announced that the venue plan will be revised because of its expensive cost.

On 31st May,
The Tokyo National Stadium, constructed for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, was closed because it is going to be reconstructed for the 2020 Olympics. The farewell party of the National Stadium was held on 31th.

I wonder if what kind of stadium will be built with lower cost.

2013 JOC/NF Forum

The IOC held the forum for kind of people in charge of Japan's sports internationally on December 4th.
It seems that this forum takes place every year.

*JOC: the Japan Olympic Committe
*NF: National Federations

According to the article, the brief summary this year was as follows.

<Participants>
112 people involved in JOC and NF

<Agenda>
-  JOC President Takeda explain about the form of organization of TOCOG.
*TOCOG: Tokyo Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games

- He asked for the cooperation of NFs in;
    Developing the basic plan for the Olympics
    Accumulating necessary experience for organizing the Olympics
    Strengthening athletes toward the goals that are
        "rank 3rd in number of gold medals" and "rank 5th in number of all medals."

- Speech about "bullying and violence in sports" by an expert from abroad

- etc.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It seems to be just formal event and not so interesting. I think the JOC members like such a meaningless but expensive events though.
But I'm a curious about the form of organization of TOCOG.
I wonder if what kind of the organization will be formed.
IOC President Thomas Bach in Tokyo
The newly elected IOC President Thomas Bach visited Tokyo on 19th and 20th November.
New IOC Vice President John Coates, Thomas Bach, JOC President Tsunekazu Takeda
 Bach and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
Although Baseball and softball have been eliminated from the Olympic games, Bach mentioned the possibility that those come back to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. However, in the Olympic Charter, games conducted in the Olympics have to be decided 7 years prior to the Olympics.
Tokyo Olympics Orientation Seminar
The IOC's executive director Gilbert Felli and some other IOC members came to Tokyo to hold an orientation seminar for the organizers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on 14th and 15th November.
The orientation about how to set up the organizing committee took place on the 2nd day. I wonder if when it is set up.
What I want to know most is how to be involved in it. haha
