Volunteer Recruitment Schedule

The volunteer recruitment for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics this year.

(All the following information is from the site of the TOCOG: The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games)

The schedule is;

2018 --------
in late July
The guideline for applicants is announced.

in late September
Application starts.

2019 --------
February - July
Screening, Intervies

October
Training starts.

2020 --------
March
Volunteers are informed their role.

April
Training based on each role starts.

May
Uniforms etc. are provided.

June
Training based on each venue starts.

~~~~~~ Application requirement (under consideration) ~~~~~~
1. 18 years old and above as of April 1, 2020
2. Able to attend training sessions
3. Japanese national, or foreign national with permission to stay Japan
4. Able to volunteer 10 or more days
and so on.
Regarding #4, I wonder if volunteers can choose what days they work.
If all volunteers choose work days as they like, it might go out of control? But I think most volunteers including me have their jobs, and holidays / days off they can take are limited. If we can choose which days we work, it would be ideal for volunteers.
Regarding #3 - permission to stay Japan, just a tourist visa is OK?
  1. Hello and welcome back!
    Thank you for all your articles about the Winter Olympics.
    I have read them all just now and your comments and views are very interesting and thoughtful.
    Congratulations to the Japanese team for some great performances and taking home 13 medals, and 10 more from the Paralympics.
    The British team had mixed fortunes, with some unexpected successes and some unexpected failures. Overall it was a bit disappointing, but in a way not surprising.
    Watching the games and reading your posts made me think about the reason some countries are better at these winter sports than others. My conclusion is that the obvious factors, like the local climate, do partly explain the results. But it's not the full story. This comment space is too small to write my thoughts in detail (Fermat's excuse!) but I might write more later. I think the (un)popularity of the event for the public is also influenced by the same factors.
    Now, to look forward, I am interested in your progress to becoming a volunteer for Tokyo 2020. Actually, I have collected some material for you that relates to the experience of volunteers for the London 2012 games. Please contact me by e-mail so I can send it to you. My e-mail address is tim@timfrost.org.
  2. Tim,
    Thank you for visiting my blog again and put the comment.
    Although you gave me the Happy New Year comment in 2017, I'm sorry that I had been away from my blog and didn't reply.
    The UK always win much more medals than Japan in Summer Olympics. I think the UK is expected to show great performance in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
    Thank you very much for collecting the material for me! I'll mail you later.
